Chris died on November 25, 2015 from Sarcoma. Three days before he died he was made a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order. This medal was delivered to him at UCH by the Queen’s Private Secretary.
At noon on the day he died Prime Minister David Cameron paid tribute to his ‘Bernard’.

Conway is a BBC News correspondent since January 2021. Previously, she was Today’s Programme reporter on BBC Radio 4.
Reporting for the Today programme, Conway mainly focused on social affairs stories such as: underpaid care workers, the state of UK prisons, the treatment of vulnerable benefits claimants and much work on the ‘unjust’ IPP prison sentence. She also investigated poor working conditions of IKEA drivers, tax avoidance schemes in the recruitment sector, the home insulation industry and an investigation into a South London illegal school.
Conway interviewed the Ravenmaster of the Tower of London and JK Rowling. She also reported the story of Pam and Gloria of the Barbican launderette.
Prior to Today’s Programme, Conway was a reporter for BBC Newsnight. She joined BBC News in 2008 as a reporter and producer of World News America. She also worked for ITV News and Channel 4 before joining BBC.
