Nelson is a morning anchor for Scripps News from 7-11 am EST on weekdays. He took the new role at Scripps News, co-anchoring “Morning Rush” from 7 to 11 a.m. ET weekdays alongside Newsy veteran Alex Livingston in June 2022.
Nelson joined Scripps News in September 2021 as anchor of “Newsy Reports.” He’s anchored the network’s coverage of a variety of news events, including Colin Powell’s funeral, the war in Ukraine, and the school massacre in Uvalde, Texas.
He has worked as a professional journalist for more than 20 years. His experience includes stints at ABC News in New York as co-anchor of “World News Now” and “America This Morning,” the nation’s top-rated early morning national newscasts, and WABC, the nation’s most-watched local station. In 2020, Nelson became one of the inaugural anchors for the cable network NewsNation.

- “Food Rush,” which offers the latest trends in the restaurant industry as well as profiles of culinary characters who bring food to the nation’s tables;
- “School Daze,” which tackles the hard issues of student debt, paying for higher education, and offering solutions to the challenges facing students and their parents; and
- “Media Mix,” which looks at the latest trends in America’s communications consumption.
In addition to co-anchoring Morning Rush on weekdays from 7-11 am EST, Nelson and Julie Grant from Court TV have another new project. The duo has a new show called “Afternoon Focus,” which will air in 16 markets around the country, including several where they will take over the old time slot from The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which ended its 19-year run earlier in 2022.
The new show, produced by the E.W. Scripps company, is dedicated to highlighting all of the good people, good stories, and good moments that often get lost or forgotten in the midst of today’s heavy and relentless news cycle.
Nelson began his television career as a morning news anchor and reporter for WWL-TV in New Orleans.
