Julie Grant Court TV

Grant brings a powerful blend of journalism experience and legal expertise to Court TV. She joined the team in 2019 and she is a licensed attorney and former prosecutor and trial expert. She also hosts Court TV Live, on weekdays 12 pm-3 pm ET.

Prior to joining Court TV, Grant was a reporter, legal editor, and anchor at KDKA-TV. While leaving the station for the relaunch of Court TV in May 2019, Grant wrote on her Facebook that “only a dream job like this” could make her leave and that she would be moving to Atlanta in the coming weeks.

“THANK YOU! Friends, my heart is full of your kindness and support. I promise to return all of your messages. It is bittersweet to be leaving Pittsburgh and KDKA-TV | CBS Pittsburgh. Only a dream job like this could pull me away. I will be wrapping up my work in the coming weeks and relocating to Atlanta. Good news — you won’t have to miss me because you can see me on COURT TV, starting May 1st! Thank you, in advance, for supporting me in this new endeavor!” she wrote.

Grant was an anchor at the Fox affiliate in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, before joining KDKA. She served from 2009 to 2013 as an assistant district attorney for Allegheny County and has taught at Temple University’s James E. Beasley School of Law.

While serving as an assistant district attorney in Allegheny County, PA, Grant tried numerous felony and misdemeanor cases before both judges and juries. Her Court TV colleagues call her “The Professor,” as she has taught in Temple’s highly regarded LL.M. program and is a faculty member of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy. Grant is also an award-winning journalist and is known by her fans to show genuine compassion for crime victims.

Julie Grant The Bee

Grant returns to The Bee. It’s a homecoming of sorts for her. She competed in the Bee in 1995 when she was in the eighth grade. Now she works for Scripps (Court TV’s parent company), which sponsors the Bee.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee finals air live tonight, Thursday, June 2, 2022, at 8/7c on ION and Bounce TV. As an announcer, Grant joins host LeVar Burton to provide television coverage. Veteran color analyst Paul Loeffler serves as an announcer as well. All three are on the ground at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland where the Bee is currently taking place.

Grant’s background will certainly be an asset to the Bee’s audience — she’s a lawyer and her Court TV colleagues call her “The Professor” because of her knack for explaining complex legalese and teaching trial advocacy.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee features 234 contestants in total, who range in age from 7 through 15 years old. The winning speller will take home a $50,000 cash prize, a Scripps medal and trophy, a Merriam-Webster reference library, and $400 in reference works from Encyclopedia Britannica. The second-place winner will get $25,000 in cash, and the speller who comes in third place will get $15,000 cash.

The remaining 12 finalists will compete tonight (Thursday, June 2, 2022) on ION and Bounce TV at 8/7c. You can also see them live on spellingbee.com/watch.
