Ian also earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Journalism from Emerson College in Boston in 2014. While in College he could always be found in the student newsroom or television studios. He also worked with EIV News, the Emerson Channel, and WEBN (which allowed him to cover MLB Spring Training while still in school).

Steele’s immediate family lives in Marshfield and his extended family is peppered throughout the South Shore; working in Providence means he gets to see them far more often than he did when working in Texas.
“I’m so lucky and happy that I’m so close to them. They keep me motivated, they’re why I do it,” he said. “I hope to make them proud and give them the recognition that they deserve. Marshfield is a great town, the perfect place to grow up.”

A Massachusetts native, his first word was “touchdown” while watching a Patriots game with his dad on television, so it’s only fitting that he followed the career path of sports reporting, a passion he developed from a very young age.
After graduating in 2014, Steele was hired by a network in Corpus Christi, TX, where he worked as a Sports Reporter and Anchor for KIII-TV3. Working there for three years helped him discover the true importance of high school sports to a community (high school football in Texas is as big of a deal as they say it is!), as well as covering minor and major league baseball, and Division I college athletics. Some highlights include: covering the winningest coach in Texas high school football history, seeing the World Series champion Houston Astros be built through the minor league team in Corpus Christi, and covering the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders in back-to-back conference tournaments.
After three years in Texas, Steele saw the job opening at WLNE; that network hired him and he has called it home for the past four years.
“Covering the teams that I grew up watching has been a thrill,” he said.
While working at the Providence station, Steele has traveled to cover Super Bowls and interviewed Bill Belichick, Tom Brady, and Mac Jones.
