In 2001 he became the host of his own show The Abrams Report on MSNBC. In 2006 he was declared the General Manager of MSNBC. He performed his duties until 2007 when he left to focus on his new show Live with Dan Abrams. The show was renamed in 2008 to Verdict with Dan Abrams. He also worked as the substitute for Today’s show.

In 2011 he began working for ABC News as the Chief Legal Analyst and also a substitute for the Good Morning America show. At around 2013 he was declared to be the host of Nightline and the Chief Legal Affairs Anchor. In 2014 he resigned from being the host of Nightline to give more time to grow his media business and resumed working as the Chief Legal Analyst for ABC.

From 2016 to 2020 he became the host of Live PD in A&E. This show focused majorly on police officers and how they conducted their work in the USA. After which they would analyze with his colleagues Tom Morris Jr. and Sean Larkin. He also worked as the co-host of Grace vs Abrams and they majorly discussed high profile cases. In June 2020 the network opted to get rid of the show Live PD.
