And then traveled to London to cover the once-in-a-generation Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, followed by the unraveling of Boris Johnson’s leadership.
In 2018 she relocated to Canberra, taking on the role of Political Reporter based at Parliament House. During her time at the press gallery, Walsh covered the demise of Malcolm Turnbull’s leadership, the chaos of the 2018 leadership coup, and Scott Morrison’s ‘miracle’ 2019 election victory over Bill Shorten. She also traveled with the prime minister to Singapore for the G20 summit, and later to Christmas Island, where media were given unprecedented access to the detention center, going behind the razor wire for the first time.
She first joined the Nine Network in 2008 as a producer for the TODAY Show. Before moving to the Nine News team, Walsh began reporting for Weekend TODAY in 2010.
In 2014, Walsh was one of two journalists in the country broadcasting live from the CBD as police stormed the Lindt Café during the Sydney siege. She went on to cover the terrorist killing of police worker Curtis Cheng, the disappearance of toddler William Tyrrell, William and Kate’s Australian royal tour, and in 2013, the NSW bushfire crisis, which earned the Nine Network a Logie award for its rolling coverage.
During her time with TODAY, she produced from the field the unfolding 2009 Black Saturday tragedy, which claimed the lives of 173 people. Then came the devastating 2010 QLD floods.
While reporting for Weekend TODAY, she specialized in human interest stories, which saw her travel to China for the country’s first women’s surfing event and to Tanzania for the water shortage crisis facing remote communities.
