Connery has been working as a journalist for over 20 years since graduating from York, where he studied PPE. For the past 15 years, he has worked for ITN as a reporter on ITV News. He says serving at ITV has taken him to more than 50 countries.
He worked in Moscow as News Correspondent, covering the Moscow theatre siege and his first TV interview with Princess Beatrice. Neill also worked as an Africa Correspondent. Throughout the Iraq war in 2003, He worked as a Correspondent based in Baghdad.
Much of his works these days are based in the UK, covering a wide brief of stories but still travels as well. He recently returned from Zimbabwe, covering the Presidential elections there in July 2013.
Neil first joined ITN in a freelance capacity in 1996. He was involved in ITV News’s coverage of the 1997 General Election, the death of Princess Diana, the aftermath of the Drumcree march as well as events in Albania, Belgrade, and Israel.
He has on many occasions won various journalist awards such as “Winner Prix Bayeux” for War Correspondents 2006 for Zimbabwe report, Nominated RTS International News Award + RTS Specialist Journalism Award, Yemen War 2016/8 AIB award fighting famine series, and the Nominated Emmy International News Award for coverage in Moscow during Beslan siege.
In the recent past, Neil has covered a series of ‘important’ international news such as the Tehran – Iran Presidential Elections in 2021, Addis Ababa – Ethiopian Airlines Crash in 2019, and the Egypt plane bomb on Nov 15. He also covered the Tunisia terror attack, Germanwings crash, Ukraine MH17 downing July 14, which became part of the RTS winning entry. Neil is also known for his exclusive interview with the former IS hostage Nicolas Henin in Nov 2014, which propelled him to participate in the RTS winning entry.
