David has two older brothers, Harry (the eldest) and Derek, an older sister named Ruth who is deaf and blind but has accomplished remarkable feats despite her challenges, and of course, his twin brother Stephen. David’s grandfather on his mother’s side, Sam Blevins, was from Co Armagh and had a history of breaking the law. In the early 1950s, he was imprisoned twice for smuggling tea, butter, and cigarettes across the frontier during a time of post-war scarcity. While he gave away the spoils to neighbors in need, it was the thrill of outsmarting the law that fueled his actions.
