Danae attended Bedford High School. While there, she compiled one of the best track-and-field resumes in BHS history. She won the state and New England indoor high-jump championships as a senior, and at one point was ranked third nationally. Danae still holds school records in the high jump, long jump, and hurdles.
She then joined Northeastern University where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism in 2020. She was a full-scholarship track and field athlete, competing as a high jumper.
As a Northeastern University undergraduate, Danae’s track and field exploits continued until an injury that she calls “career-ending.” But she adds, “It all worked out perfectly.”
“From a young age I knew I always wanted to do something creative,” she related. That objective was narrowed to journalism in 2011 when she was an eighth-grader living on a military base in Japan with her family. An earthquake and tsunami in that country took almost 16,000 lives.
“The way our family knew was through the news. I wanted to help other people the way they were able to help my own family,” she said.

While at WJCL Danae covered many high-profile stories including Ahmaud Arbery’s death and subsequent murder trial, as well as an investigation into the city of Savannah’s public struggle to enforce COVID-19 mandates during the pandemic. And on a lighter note, Danae reported on a wild peacock invasion of a residential Savannah neighborhood.
Prior to reporting at WJCL, Danae worked at WHDH-TV in Boston, NBC’s Meet the Press, the Colorado Springs Gazette, and several local newspapers including Wicked Local Media Solutions. Danae is the recipient of several journalism awards including a 2021 “Best Reporter” GABBY from the Georgia Association of Broadcasters at their annual award ceremony that recognizes excellence in broadcasting. She also was the recipient of two Student Production Awards presented by the Boston/New England Chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences while in college — one for Best College/University Newscast in 2017 for a student-run newscast, which she anchored and contributed stories to, and another for Best Student Long-Form Non-Fiction video in 2019.
Danae was a self-described ‘military brat’ as a child (Go Navy!) which allowed her to live and travel extensively around the world at a young age.
