Matt is a 40-time SE Regional Emmy-winning and 16-time Regional Edward R. Murrow Award-winning national correspondent for The E.W. Scripps Company. Based out of Atlanta, he reports long-form, in-depth stories about meaningful subjects that run across the company’s dozens of local TV stations. Matt travels the country to tell stories of substance.

For the previous 12 years, Matt served as the Chief of Storytelling and Development and enterprise reporter for WXIA-TV, the NBC affiliate in Atlanta. He specialized in human interest pieces and did features regularly for “Untold Atlanta”, a storytelling franchise aimed at telling the deeper, often uncovered stories of the region.

During Matt’s career, he has served as a correspondent for the 2008 Democratic Convention, the 2010 Gulf oil spill, and the 2017 Presidential inauguration. Matt has also reported from the World Series, three Super Bowls, and three Olympic Games. In addition, his stories have appeared on CNN, MSNBC, The Weather Channel, and most famously NBC Nightly News. Matt graduated from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism and worked at affiliates in Sioux City, Iowa, and Buffalo, NY before arriving in Atlanta. He has five times been named the NPPA’s National Solo Video Journalist of the Year.

Matt speaks regularly at journalism workshops and conferences and most recently served on the faculty at the NPPA’s prestigious Advanced Storytelling Workshop. In 2016 he authored a book, The Solo Video Journalist, a how-to guide for aspiring reporters published by Focal Press/Routledge. Matt is always looking to expand his network of associates and colleagues; he is also interested in gaining more exposure in the Atlanta area. He is involved in several volunteer and non-profit efforts and is happy to speak at functions and events promoting positive causes.
