Chris is a national correspondent, reporting for all E.W. Scripps television stations across the country. He reports out of the Washington, D.C. bureau but is rarely in the office and usually on the road, reporting stories across the country.
Prior to being named a national correspondent, Chris spent eight years at WTVF-TV, NewsChannel 5 in Nashville which is also owned by E.W. Scripps. While in Nashville, Chris covered a number of stories that caught the nation’s eye, including the deadly tornadoes which hit the city in March of 2019, the high-profile rape trial of two former Vanderbilt University football players, and the deadly wildfires in the Great Smoky Mountains.
While working at NewsChannel 5, he was honored with 22 Regional Emmy awards for General Assignment Reporting, Hard News Feature Reporting, and Writing. In May of 2020, Chris was nominated for the prestigious Peabody Award for his contributions on an extensive investigation which eventually led to the resignation of Tennessee’s former House Speaker.
Chris has been the recipient of a number of regional Edward R. Murrow Awards and has also been named “Journalist of the Year” by the Associated Press.
Over the years, Chris has reported live for the CBS Evening News and provided live reports from the Boston Marathon in April of 2013 after having the distinct misfortune of crossing the finish line just moments after two bombs exploded, killing three people. In April 2014, Chris returned to Boston to complete the marathon for a sixth time and provided viewers with a unique perspective on an emotional day. His travels have also taken him to New York, where he was a general assignment reporter for WHAM-TV, the ABC affiliate in Rochester.
Prior to his days in New York, Chris was exploring the Midwest. He spent two years as a general assignment reporter at KTTC-TV, the NBC affiliate in Rochester, Minnesota. During his Minnesota days, Chris was frequently chasing tornados across the countryside, and in September of 2011, he was honored with a Regional Emmy award for his work covering historic floods and an unprecedented tornado outbreak.
Before heading west Chris was at WCVB-TV, the ABC affiliate in Boston, Mass., where he was a writer for all of the station’s newscasts. In his spare time, you’ll usually catch Chris outside running or hiking with his yellow lab, Cooper. Cooper was rescued from a shelter in Lebanon, TN a few years back. So far, he’s completed eight marathons and even a few triathlons. He also raced competitively for Boston University’s downhill ski team.
