Bill Weir is an anchor, writer, producer and host. He is also the CNN’s Chief Climate correspondent since 2019. He joined the network in 2013. Previously, he was the co-anchor of Nighline on ABC. He also co-anchored the weekend edition of Good Morning America from 2004 to 2010.

Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, Bill’s parents divorced when he was 2 years old. His father was a liberal, atheist homicide detective and he fled Milwaukee’s inner-city chaos for the serenity of the Rockies. His mother is a devoted Christian. She found Jesus when Bill was 4 years old. One Saturday she announced over breakfast “I had a dream from God last night.”
They left Milwaukee and moved to the Bible Belt so that her mother could pursue her career in televangelism. “Tell your Dad I’ll give up alimony and child support if he lets us go. Jesus will take care of us,” her mother said. A few weeks later they headed south, modest U-Haul in tow. They lived in six states as her mom followed her dreams.
Weir hasn’t disclosed whether he has siblings or not.

Weir is married to Kelly Dowd since 2020. His wife is the Director of sales at Mackage Outwear. She is also the sales manager at APP Group in USA.

Weir is a veteran anchor, writer, producer and host. He joined CNN in 2013 after a decade of award-winning journalism at ABC News. In 2019, he was named the network’s first Chief Climate Correspondent, drawing on his experience creating and hosting the primetime CNN Original Series “The Wonder List with Bill Weir.”
The Columbia Journalism Review called his 2020 CNN Special Report, The Road to Change “one of the very best pieces of climate journalism ever run by a mainstream US news organization” and his first book, Dear River; A Guide to Growing Up at The End will be published by Chronicle Prism in 2022.

His live shots have come from atop the Golden Gate Bridge and below the waters of the Great Barrier Reef while his adventure reporting includes jumps from hot air balloons, hikes deep into the Amazon and one fun night spent lashed to the side of Yosemite’s El Capitan.
Before joining ABC News, Weir wrote and hosted projects for the FX and USA Networks and was an anchor/reporter in Los Angeles, Chicago, Green Bay and Austin, MN.
