Jayne Azzopardi Parents

Jayne was born in Sydney, Australia. In 2017, she lost her grandmother, Carmela Formosa, who was born in Malta in 1921. At the tender age of 18, Carmela Formosa met and married her grandfather Carmelo Azzopardi (yes, Carmela and Carmelo – how cute is that?!). Jayne’s grandparents were married the day World War Two began, and lived in a simple mud brick home on the fairly barren land they farmed.

In 1955, Carmella, now with 8 children in tow, joined Carmelo in boarding a ship to Australia. The journey took 6 weeks. They disembarked in Sydney, and – carrying all their children and speaking not a word of English — ate a picnic meal in Belmore Park opposite Central Station before the whole family spent the night on benches inside the station and boarded a train the next day to a tiny town of El Arish, near Tully in Far North Queensland. Once there, her grandfather worked in cane fields while Carmela ran the tiny and simple corrugated iron-clad house they called home — packed with hungry and growing children learning English and making a new life far from home.

Jayne’s grandparents had eight children, first five daughters, then three sons, and Paul, Jayne’s father was the eldest son. A decade or so later, the family moved to Pendle Hill in Sydney’s western suburbs when their eldest son — Paul — got into teachers college.

Paul met his wife while in Pendle Hill, they got married and were blessed with three children, Jayne, her sister, and brother.

Jayne is married to Trent Butler. The couple tied the knot on 31 March 2018, at Glen Albyn Estate in Tasmania. On 4 February 2020, Jayne gave birth to her first child named Joey. In June 2021, she welcomed her second baby boy named Theodore Phillip.

“Perfect little Theodore Phillip arrived last week and completed our family. Mum and Dad are busy, tired, and feeling very grateful for our healthy & handsome little surprise package,” she said.
