Eddy started his career as a newspaper copyboy in 1982 before completing a cadetship with the Daily Mirror and Daily Telegraph.
At the end of 1986, he made the switch to television, joining Channel 10’s Sydney newsroom for two years before taking the opportunity to move to London to join the team establishing the new satellite network Sky News. It was two years working on something Britain hadn’t seen before – a 24-hour news service taking on the established television broadcasters. During that time, he helped produce news bulletins and stories that covered major events including the fall of the Berlin Wall, the first Gulf War, and the Tiananmen Square massacre.
In 1992, Eddy returned to Australia and to Ten News as a reporter where, over the next 21 years, he covered some of the biggest events in recent world history – Nelson Mandela’s election as South African President, the handing back of Hong Kong to China by Britain, the assassination of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and the 2004 Asian Tsunami.
Between 1995 and 1997, Eddy was Ten’s US Bureau Chief based in Los Angeles but crisscrossing the United States to report on everything from a presidential election to the Oscars.
