An award-winning journalist, Pearson has spent more than two decades reporting on Illinois government and politics and also has been part of the Tribune’s presidential election coverage team. In 2000 and 2004, he covered extensively the campaigns of George W. Bush. During the 2004 Democratic presidential primary contests, he covered John Kerry and Howard Dean.

In the 2008 presidential race, Pearson was the lead reporter covering the Iowa caucuses and went on to travel the country with candidates in both political parties, reporting for the Tribune as well as WGN radio and television. He covered the Democratic and Republican national conventions–his sixth election cycle attending the country’s premier presidential nominating events.

Pearson has been a guest on numerous local and nationally broadcast television and radio programs. He appears regularly on Wednesdays on “The Steve Cochran Show” on WGN-AM radio to discuss national and state politics. He also served as co-moderator of the 2002 Chicago Tribune/WGN-TV debate among Illinois’ candidates for governor.
