Her focus is covering political stories in the region, as well as breaking news for NewsCenter 5. She joined the station in 2014 and has worked as an investigative, political, and general assignment reporter for more than 20 years. She has also covered terrorism, including the Boston Marathon Bombing, the opioid crisis, the deadly nationwide meningitis outbreak caused by the New England Compounding Center, the MBTA winter storm meltdown of 2015, and the financial collapse of the Boston Grand Prix INDYCAR race planned for downtown Boston.
In addition, Karen covered the search for the killer of a toddler known as “Baby Doe” and received a 2016 Boston/New England Emmy award, along with 5 Investigates reporter Kathy Curran, for coverage of the case. She also interviewed every major presidential candidate from 2000 to 2012 and covered notorious Boston gangster Whitey Bulger’s arrest, the State Drug Lab scandal, and championships of the Patriots, Red Sox, and Bruins.
