“During my TV work, I often tap into the performing arts skills I learned at Middlesex – from basic voice work and breathing techniques to storytelling. Even though the news programmes are factual, I still have to think of engaging ways to tell the stories. I took TV production modules during my degree and used the University studio a lot. I also learnt technical skills like video editing – I still do that today in a more digital form,” she added.

Faye was born in Hampshire, although her family moved to Holsworthy when she was four where her dad worked as a GP until he retired recently.
Her parents divorced in 1980, but both remarried, and Faye was brought up by her mum and her stepdad near Uffculme. Her dad and stepmom lived nearby and she spent many weekends with them.

Faye is married to Nick Jenkins, a design team manager in an investment bank in the city. Nick had known Faye since his university days and they initially became housemates with a couple of other friends.
“lt was only after Nick moved out that we realized our friendship was much deeper, Faye said. Ten years later we got married, so we took our time!”
The couple was first brought together by a mutual friend, George Buckingham whom Faye had known at school in Uffculme and who was at the same university as Nick. He ended up being Nick’s best man.

Barker is married to Nick Jenkins and her wedding took place at Bickleigh Castle, Devon, in September 2007.
Like many couples now, they had multiple parents to contend with at the wedding and it was very important to them that each of them had a role to play.
“Dad gave me away in the traditional manner and gave a beautiful speech: my step-dad (who is a car nut) drove me to the ceremony at Bickleigh Castle in a beautiful old convertible Riley,” Barker said.
“Like any mother, Mum was highly involved in the Wedding preparations throughout (especially the flowers, provided by Polly Thompson at West Country Wedding Flowers, because l don’t have much of a clue) and we spent many hours before the wedding collecting and drying rose petals for confetti – it was amazing how much we were able to accumulate at little or no cost, and something to be recommended,” she added.
“My step-mum organized the cake for us after meeting Sue Arscott from Devon Cake Box at a wedding fair in North Devon. We had a traditional cake but with a sponge as the middle tier since neither Nick nor I are keen on fruit cake and a ring of chocolate cupcakes around the bottom tier with our initials on them.”
“After a summer of wet weather, the weekend of the wedding was beautifully sunny- a perfect weekend – and followed by a honeymoon to Kenya, Tanzania, and Zanzibar. “We went on safari in Tanzania, which was amazing but a bit tiring. Luckily we had four days of relaxation on the Kenyan coast beforehand and that would be my advice to anyone going on honeymoon straight after the wedding. Take time out to relax at the start of the trip. You’ll need it to reflect on the day.”
Prior to the wedding, Nick proposed to Barker on 4 October 2006.

Barker is a presenter and reporter for ITV News and ITV News London. She began her career at the London-based European Business News, an affiliate of CNBC, in October 1996. After becoming a production journalist for ITN in 1999, she later made her on-screen TV debut for 5 News on Channel 5, where she was a presenter and reporter.
In 2001, she landed a presenting job for the regional evening news magazine Calendar on ITV Yorkshire. Whilst working at ITV Yorkshire, she appeared as an undercover reporter on three series of Package Holiday Undercover on ITV.
In 2005, Barker became a freelancer – appearing on ITV Morning News, ITV News Channel, ITV News London, Setanta Sports News, Sky News, and 5 News. She also made a cameo appearance playing a journalist in episode two of the ITV drama Whistleblowers in Autumn 2007. Since then she has appeared in the films Survivor (2015), Weekender (2011), and Hampstead (2016) and also played a newscaster in the Hulu series Four Weddings and a Funeral (2019)
On 12 January 2009, Barker was appointed the main newscaster of ITV Morning News on ITV. However, the programme was discontinued in December 2012. Barker would also present three short opts which air as part of Good Morning Britain for ITV News London on ITV London (Wednesdays & Thursdays) – a role which she continues. She is also a reporter for ITV Lunchtime News.
Her corporate work has included presenting awards shows and videos for Randstad, English National Ballet School, and Middlesex University as well as hosting debates, including for Totaljobs.
In 2018, Barker joined 26 other celebrities under the artist name The Celebs and performed an original Christmas song called Rock With Rudolph, written and produced by Grahame and Jack Corbyn. The song was recorded in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital and was released digitally through independent record label Saga Entertainment on 30 November 2018. The music video debuted exclusively with The Sun on 29 November 2018 and had its first TV showing on Good Morning Britain on 30 November 2018. The song peaked at number two on the iTunes pop chart.
In 2020 amid the COVID-19 crisis, Barker rejoined The Celebs, which this year included Frank Bruno and X Factor winner Sam Bailey to raise money for both Alzheimer’s Society and Action for Children. They recorded a new rendition of Merry Christmas Everyone by Shakin’ Stevens and it was released digitally on 11 December 2020, on the independent record label Saga Entertainment. The music video debuted exclusively on Good Morning Britain the day before release. The song peaked at number two on the iTunes pop chart.
