Thornton also studied basic meteorology at the Open University before rejoining the BBC in January 2009 where she did more training.

I spent the summer holidays cluttering up newsrooms, making the teas, and trying to learn to write. I did the almost mandatory stint at hospital radio when I was 18. Then after university, armed with an English degree and a Post-Grad in Broadcast Journalism I went to work for the BBC.”
On May 22, 2022, her parents celebrated their 52nd anniversary.

Is Sara Thornton married? Sara is married to Jack Izzard, a former BBC news correspondent. The couple met at Anglia Television in Norwich where they were both working at the time. In November 2003 they tied the knot.

Who is Sara Weather woman? Sara is a presenter, journalist, and Fellow of the Royal Met Society with more than twenty years of professional experience, working for some of the biggest broadcasting organizations in the world. She started her career at the BBC while working towards her Journalism Post-graduate, and spent several happy years as a roving TV and radio reporter before moving to ITV as a newsreader in 2000. It was there that she began her meteorology training and moved into the weather presenting role, using her combined skills to present and produce environment reports and a half-hour weather documentary.
In the early noughties, she also worked the tough showbiz circuit of parties, premieres, and junkets as a reporter for TV and radio outlets including Liquid News, Independent Radio News, ITN, and Radio 1, interviewing hundreds of celebrities such as The Sex Pistols, James Brown, Ewan McGregor, Sir Ian McKellan, Martin Freeman, Ant, and Dec, and countless others, and appearing on the final of Pop Idol.
After a stint living abroad in Brussels and Washington D.C., Sara returned to the BBC as a weather presenter in 2009. She became part of the BBC Weather national team as a Senior Producer and presenter in 2011, while also working across all BBC Nations and Regions, and becoming the first presenter to appear on every local, regional, national, and international platform fronting the weather.
In 2016, Sara joined the UK’s Met Office as a presenter to launch the new UKMO weather app and help develop a team of on-screen presenter forecasters.
Sara teamed up with her former colleague John to launch Weathertrending in 2017, and today combines the business with her broadcasting and journalism career. She can be found regularly presenting radio shows, giving expert analysis on severe weather for national publications and radio stations, and writing for the likes of Countryfile Magazine and The Telegraph.
In their most ambitious project to date, Sara and John launched their ground-breaking weather travel app Vacay Weather in 2020 – helping holidaymakers to plan leisure travel around the vagaries of world weather.
